Catholic Orphanage
I found out about this place a few days ago
and after aquaplaning down the Chester Road and having to walk on my hands over
broken glass through a window to get inside, I decided to have a look around
this 19th century boys boarding school/orphanage. It was closed down in 1988 (or
1996, according to some online exam statistics) after reports of abuse that
later lead to a conviction, and controversy over orphans being shipped off to
Australia to help spread 'good white stock' throughout the empire (a practice
that in total sent 150,000 children out of Britain to its dominions). I'm only
using a Canon A620, but here are a couple of the photos I took (more
here).
