Abandonded Branson Show Site Branson, MO

These are pictures of an abandonded show location near Branson, MO. It is probably 5 miles from the downtown area where most of the shows are. The pictures were taken in June 2008. One of the people I was with that week said he had been there for the show a previous year and enjoyed it, it was OK. Another review that is still online, the lady said it was a rip off. Here is an online ad for the show: The Tall Timber Lumberjack Theater offers a respite from all of the musical shows in Branson with its very different type of entertainment. The Tall Timber Lumberjack Theater is a dinner theater and serves a great meal to go with a great show. Featuring two teams competing in 13 different timber sports you can't take your eyes off the amazing competition. Volunteers are regularly plucked from the pavilion so be sure to sharpen up your axe throwing skills before heading over to the Tall Timber Lumberjack Theater. Theater Details Seating Capacity: 180 seat pavilion Gift Shop: yes Parking: Free on-site parking Handicap Accessibility: This theater is handicap accessible. Photography: Cameras are permitted, but not during the show. Concessions & Dining: A meal is served while you are watching the show. Theater Design: The pavilion is set up with picnic like tables and benches so that you can eat your meal comfortably. Another website said that after the site was abandoned, the show was going on the road for a while until a new location was being prepared that was not so off the beaten track.

susquehanna school for boys,MD

I would also like to issue a correction on the "susquehanna school for boys" segment on the maryland page. this school is called the tome school for boys, and is part of a 509 building complex called bainbridge, a abandoned naval base. the navy bought the school and the surronding buildings to use as part of their education of sailors. I 'run tours' up there often (as I am a local of the port deposit area) not many people know about it, but it is common for people to ask to be taken there, since the way in is difficult to find. the school was also not 'relocated to somewhere else in the country' but relocated up the street, to north east maryland. also, no concrete blocks seal the entrances any longer, nor are any buildings demolished.

Slocombe's Glastonbury,CT

Not only does this building have historical significance, as it has been around since the Revolutionary War and has been used for everything from making uniforms for Civil War soldiers to parts for Pratt and Whitney; it also has emotional significance to me, as this location has been the highlight of many of my childhood summers along with my band members. It's known as Slocombe's, and town officials are planning to tear it down due to "vandalism," but one man stands in their way who is fighting to preserve the building's history. I know that my friends and I will happily stand alongside him, for I don't want my memories to be destroyed either. The surrounding area is also very beautiful; it's built on a river where local teenagers have built a rope swing, and there are also many hiking trails. I'd hate to see all this natural and historic beauty replaced by some tacky strip mall or discount store.

Researching the Hacienda Hotel, New Port Richey

Hello, I've really enjoyed your photos from inside the Hacienda Hotel in New Port Richey, Florida. I grew up in that area and have been interested in its history for a long time, and am now researching more about it for a novel I'm writing, which involves a lot of the Hacienda's history. I was hoping you may remember some things about the inside of the building and can answer a few questions for me. I'm not sure how long it has been since you were there - I don't remember seeing a date on the page with the photos. In fact, since I saw the page on your site that tells users how to upload photos, I'm not sure if it was you or one of your site users who was there that night. If it wasn't you, could you please forward my email to the proper person? (I tried to open the forum link, but for some reason I couldn't load the page. I was thinking that some or all of the answers I'm looking for could be in the forum.) Here are my main questions: 1.Do you know what room is on the other side of the windows (doors?) leading to the balcony in photo 08 (attached)? (That photo was taken from the back of the building.) 2.Do you know if there is a way to get up into the turret on the roof? 3.Do you know what room is in the 2nd floor area with all the windows, that apparently leads out to the deck, in photo 06? I believe that part of the building faces Main Street. (I found the attached photos on commons.wikimedia, if it would help jog your memory to see the other pictures they have there.) 4.Were you able to see any of the rooms that would have been patient rooms? I'm guessing they would have been the guest's rooms when the building was a hotel (?). Were they all on one floor? Were they large rooms? 5.Under "What you may not know" on the web page, it says, "There is a 'secret' floor that can be accessed from outside, (Added on in the 90's I believe), or from a door in the kitchen. It's called the Bordello. At the top of the stairs covered by red paneling is a tunnel that goes out to the river where booze and hookers were smuggled in. This hole has obviously been filled and is inaccessible." Is that part of "More from our viewers"? If so, do you remember who sent that information to you, or do you know where I can find more information about it? I'm most interested in the tunnel . . . a big part of my story takes place in 1929, and if I can learn more about the tunnel and whether it was there then (it makes sense it would have been, if it was used to smuggle booze and hookers in), I can bring it into the story. 6.Did you see the Bordello "secret floor"? Any idea what might be there? Thanks so much for whatever you can tell me, or any direction you can point me in, to find out more!

Power House - Oregon

Early 1900 water powered, (Rogue River) triple turbine power station. Ran until the 1970s ? We had another site in mind and it turned out to be heavily secured so we will have to return at another time. Happened to spot this site just by luck. And turned out really interesting. The elements have not been kind, but there is very little vandalism making it a very cool find.It unfortunately like the other site we will return to later is slated for destruction the end of this year. Site is gated and fenced. Red Skull

Royal Oak Charcoal Factory - Oregon

Don't have any info. on the plants establishment date but closed several years ago. I guess most people want there barbecue now and don't want to wait for the nuggets to turn to coals. Thus ended this facilities life.Employed apprx. 100 and ran maybe 2 shifts. Me and my wife originally did an outward cruise and saw no security post, but noticed vagarant activity, I came back alone some days later. The plant is big and (dark), charcoal plant, so alot of shots are dark. The neat thing was the big empty warehouse area as I was half way across the plant, it radiated a green light, so I dodged all the run off trenches and took the shots. They don,t do it justice but all an all a very cool site. This is a rare site, because no posted security, trespassing signs or keep outs. But is along a rail line and we noticed vagarant activity.

Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station in Cleveland,Ohio

Hi, I love your site and want to let you know that the grounds to the Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station in Cleveland,Ohio are now open to the public. There is easy access to the site from Wendy Park . The path has a new fence and the grounds have been completely cleaned up of trash and the overgrowth of brush and weeds have been completely removed. I first visited the area late last summer ,but, didn't have a camera with me ,so I went back yesterday and snapped a couple of pics of what the area looks like now . There has been some talk for quite some time of restoring the station and putting it to use for something like an education center , a museum,or even a restaurant and gift shop. These might not be the best pics at the moment, but, I live just 10 minutes away and plan on going back and getting some better pics.

Haunted Rock Point Cemetary - Oregon

Mid 1800's Cemetary. Listed as haunted on many registers. As background states Native Americans avoided the area and is also in close proximity to a know vortex. Back ground research credits the obsevance of a lantern carring spectre, and heavy mist. Stopped by a local tavern before checking out the site, and happened to ask about its location. A local character made the prediction that if you entered at nite, "you would come out faster than you went in"! Creepy place. We walked around at dusk and the feeling of neglect and abandonment gave off some creepy vibes. Went to take some nite shots but both our camera's batteries were dead, go figure. Red Skull As a side note this is all thats left of what once was a gold rush town.

288 Wilkinson - The Red House

288 Wilkinson (Wilkinson is the house's name) in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, USA. This is back when it was still accessible. It's been re-boarded up and the back deck's stairs have been completely demolished. About 5 feet behind the house is the remainder of a well, which has also been closed, using 1/4" thick steel plating. Farther back is a severely deteriorated barn. That too has been re-boarded, except there is a hole in the sagging floor where one can JUST squeeze through. So the barn is still accessible through it's basement. None of the pictures are in order.

According to sources it has been restored, but I don't know how much. When I went there the boarding up was terrible, so it was quite easy to get in. That was about two months ago. The first two floors of the burned section were accessible. The second floor had burn holes and collapsed section all around it, and the third hardly existed anymore. None of the pictures are in order.

Epsteins Egg Farm

Epstein's Egg Farm This abandoned egg farm can be found on the east side of Old Freehold Road, a few miles north of route 37, in between Toms River and Brick in New Jersey. The property is quite large, complete with two (yes 2) 2 story houses, multiple rows of old chicken coupes, a small guest house, a shed and a garage. The property is easily explorable and once you pull in and turn a slight corner to the left you are largely hidden from the street and free to wander around without being seen. Every building on the property is open and heavily vandalized, though some buildings are hard to get into due to overgrowth. There is a TON of random stuff in and around the buildings including trash, clothes, toys, tires, condoms, car parts, glass, a boat, old carpet, furniture and just about anything else you could think of. LOTS to see on this property, the weirdest of which (from what we saw) was a mountainous pile (literally thousands) of old VHS tapes in one room of one the chicken coupes and an unusually large collection of children's toys scattered everywhere. One of the sections of chicken coupe has been recently swept and cleaned out. We think someone was trying to convert the section into a hidden indoor skate park or bike park, ideal on the concrete floors. It's obvious that bums (and whoever else) currently live there, the chicken coupes are like endless rows of homeless dormitories, but we didn't see anybody when we went during the day. This place would be too intense and unmanageable at night. There IS NOT, however, a single no trespassing sign ANYWHERE. Not one. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL when exploring this property. On top of the usual menu of dangers associated with exploring abandoned sites (broken glass, derelict buildings, rusty nails, sinkholes etc etc), the property is quite large and you never know who will be there (or squats there) when you arrive. The Layout: The south side of the property is where most people would enter from the street. Although there is an entrance on the north side as well. I would recommend entering here via car and taking the slight left once inside to leave your car in between the guest house and chicken coupe. Your vehicle will be well hidden from the road here. This area has the main house, the guest house, the garage, 3 rows of chicken coupes, the skate/bike park, the tire farm and a small shed behind the main house. All of which are open and explorable, as long as the garbage/foliage isn't too thick. If you keep walking back into the woods once you hit the tires, there are even more piles of clothes, tires, toys, old plumbing etc etc. The middle of the property is a long, empty area, connected by a car-size path. The north side of the property holds a 2 story house which is almost inaccessible without a machete to cut through the growth. You will also find 2 rows of chicken coupes here, one of which is only accessible by going through a hole in the back wall of the other. This is where the boat and VHS mountain are.

Outside pictures show caretaker home sites, garden and ranch out buildings. neat chicken coop, street lites and stairs to no where show where at one time somebody called it home. The Power House shut down in 1972 and the fish counting is now monitored by video at the Dam site. The Power House provided hydro-electric power for many families in Southern Oregon in the early 1900"s. Side note of all the places we have explored and that has been many this is only the second site that we have been allowed to explore by the owners. Thanks J.V. Red Skull

Old School For The Blind/deaf Jackson, MS

The school for the blind and deaf for Mississippi opened in 1889. The building we pictured was built in 1949 and used well up until 2004. At that time, a new school opened up right across from the old one. I inquired about who owned the current building and learned that the Mississippi Development Authority was given the building via a Senate vote. They are currently developing a "RFP Project plan" for the site. Based on what we saw, the building hasn't been destroyed by the elements and was very structurally sound. Hobos will probably stay away as it's slightly nicer side of town and there is really no nearby food sources for them. Security was lackadaisical and there are still 4 more buildings to investigate, though 2-3 are more than likely to be inaccessible at our current "skillz". All in all, a great first Urban Exploring Experience.

Yorktown Memorial Hospital closed it's doors in the late 1980s and has sat abandoned until 3 years ago when the new owner bought it and opened it to paranormal investigators. It's an amazing building! The Yorktown city administration did a surprise inspection on the building on Sep 8th and gave it some building violations so a certificate of occupancy can not be granted and effectively shut this building down for good, the administrator also commented he would like to see it demolished. There is an active effort to save this location, and a movie is being filmed in the town that features it http://www.facebook.com/yorktownmovieif you are interested in more photos and more information about saving the Yorktown Memorial Hospital.
